The plum trees are bearing their round blue fruit now. The unripened plums smell of a brisk sweetness, a scent that’s intensified by the damp June air. If you ate them now they’d make you sick. What fascinating fruits these plums are!

梅も丸々と青く実る時期になりました。
青梅の香りというのは、清々しくて少し甘くて、
梅雨の湿った空気に溶けると一層、匂い立つもののですね。
そのまま食べると毒というのも、魅力的な果実ですね。
まだ梅雨空が続きそうですが、雨模様も楽しまれますよう。
