In most traditional societies, confrontation happens between acquaintances. These societies are tiny (you might spend your whole life in a community of less than a few hundred people), so you almost always have a preexisting relationship with someone you fight.
In that kind of society, the important question to answer in the face of conflict is: “How do we repair this relationship?”
On the other hand, in the large scale society of developed nations, the important question becomes: “Who is right?”
